‘Nigerian Wood’ is Keziah Jones’ debut US album. Written and inspired in constant flux between Brooklyn, Paris, Lagos and London. Recorded at the legendary studios Electric Lady NY ( ) and Track Record LA ( ).
Produced by Karriem Riggins the highly sought after jazz / hip hop drummer – producer – collaborator ( Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall, Erykah Badu, Common, Mad Lib ).
Riggins brings an elegant, spare production style to Jones’ organized and delicious confrontation between African avant-gardism and the great black American music tradition.
Four albums after the statement of intent that was ‘Blufunk is a fact’, the maverick tradition of George Clinton, Fela Kuti, Miles and Hendrix the precision and honesty of Curtis Mayfield and D’Angelo and the funk of Prince meet on ‘Nigerian Wood’.

“This record talks about my relationship with History. I am Nigerian but I travel all over, I have philosophical discussions with the people I meet. There have been wars and invasions between Africa and Europe, but there have also been love stories between individuals that nobody ever talks about, and it’s also to do with the cities. New York and Lagos are alike. Both cities think they are the best in the world (laugh). If you go to Nigeria, they will tell you: “It’s Lagos!” with the same tone that people use here to say: “It’s New York, man!” They are very proud of it…“There are a lot of similarities between Lagos and New York, in the attitude of people and a certain urban aggressiveness. I set myself up partly in New York because this city contains in itself the whole world,””
